Ownership / Financing / Risk
Real Estate
Understand the property beyond the purchase price.
Property combines a physical asset with ongoing costs and often debt. Equity is an estimate of value minus secured borrowing; it is not the same as cash available to spend.
Your starting framework
- List taxes, insurance, maintenance, financing and vacancy assumptions.
- Keep a property valuation date and the outstanding loan balance.
- Distinguish rental receipts from cash flow after expenses.
- Stress-test a repair or income interruption before making a commitment.
Put the learning to work
Choose one item, note what you can verify and identify what you still need to ask. Progress means improving understanding and participation, not reaching a prescribed wealth level.
